- The most common exterior restoration or customization process is to change the suspensions and wheels of the Beetle. The wheels most commonly used are the Speedwell BRMs, EMPI 5 or 8-spokes, and Porsche factory rims such as Fuchs.
- The original California look is to remove or replace the bumpers and trims to reduce the weight. Push bars are the most common if the bumpers are removed.
- For a more “Resto Cal” look, roof racks and similar ornaments are included in the car.
- Aftermarket parts such as chrome wipers, wing mirrors, stone guards, badges and mud flaps are also added to the Beetle.
- Interior sound system, which is composed of speakers, subwoofers, and head unit, can also be added.
- Auxiliary gauges, steering wheels, race harness, and bucket seats can also be added in the interior of a Beetle.
